Bio
I am originally from Quebec City, Canada. My family were musicians when I was growing up and my parents instruments always fascinated me. After spending my teenage years playing music, I attended and graduated from Quebec’s “ELAN – Ecole De Lutherie” violin and classical guitar making in the early 90s and have been professionally active ever since. I have worked in music stores and luthier repair shops, high-end custom guitar shops and big scale manufacturing facilities, on electric and acoustic instruments, across Canada and the United States. I have also travelled in Europe, Mexico and Asia for apprenticeships or work. Through the years, I gained knowledge and collaborated with dozens of talented and inspiring teams and feel very fortunate to be part of this community.
The main highlights of my carrier so far have been learning violin-making for 3 years with Luthier Jacques Martel, assisting David Webber for 4 years in his shop in North Vancouver, and being hired for Fender by Dan Smith in 2003, giving me the opportunity to live in United States and work in R&D for the historical Guild brand for a period of 8 years. After developing instruments for Fender Acoustics for another 7 years, I worked with Gretsch guitar, one of the brands and teams I respect the most. And most recently since 2021, I am working as a contractor for ToneLounge Guitars created by friend Brian Swerdfeger, and for Yamaha, Cordoba, and Guild again, with the support of my former Fender friend, Brian McLeskey.
Aside from this, I have been designing and building my own instruments since 1993 under the name ML Basses. It is the outlet I use to create high-end instruments with an emphasis on playability, sound and durability. I also offer my services as a stringed instruments designer, and 3D and project engineer under my business ML Lutherie.
I currently live in Port Coquitlam Canada and play in a local bands.
